2. Ikebana and Japanese Drumming at Melbourne Flower Show on 27 March 2010.
Shoso Shimbo will create a large Ikebana arrangement (about 6m wide) to music by Rindo Daiko, the most celebrated Japanese drumming group in Melbourne. http://www.wadaikorindo.com/
This is a very rare and rather unusual combination of two very different Japanese art forms. Ikebana is often associated with serene meditative aspects of Japanese culture and Japanese Taiko drumming is known for its dynamic rhythms. This performance will introduce the audience to a more dramatic side of Ikebana as the drums provide encouragement and a source of energy for Shoso and his assistants. These two art forms of opposing natures meet for the first time in Melbourne or possibly even in the world.
